The S.C. Coastal Animal Rescue and Educational Sanctuary, or SC-CARES, presented an educational question-and-answer program for children ages 5 through 12 attending a summer camp July 9 at the Grand Strand Family YMCA.

Cindy Hedrick, a director of the sanctuary, introduced several exotic animals and birds to the group and explained their care and safety. She gave an opportunity for the children to see and pet some of the animals at the end of the session.

SC-CARES is a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in Georgetown for unwanted, abused and neglected exotic animals.

The sanctuary is a nonprofit public-supported charity and environmental center that develops educational outreach programs for schools, universities and other civic groups.
